Trump Appoints Businessman David Fischer as New US Ambassador to Morocco

Rabat – After the departure of Dwight Bush in January 2017, United States President Donald Trump has appointed David Fischer as the new US ambassador to Morocco, reports US media.A Michigan-based industrialist and Republican extraordinaire, Fischer is the CEO of Suburban Collection, the state’s largest car dealership with 48 franchised stores. One of the biggest financial contributors to Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, Fischer provided USD 250,000 and co-chaired the Trump Victory Fund, allowing the current White House tenant to take Michigan, the Midwestern US labor state (and its 16 electors), from Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Presented as an “active philanthropist” by the American press, Fisher is also the CEO of the large American construction company Walbridge Aldinger Co. He was previously the chairman of finance for Mitt Romney’s two presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.In addition to being a billionaire businessman, Fischer, whose villa in Palm Beach is adjoined to the now famous Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s summer residence, has maintained a genuine friendship with the president.Fischer’s appointment also marks a noticeable departure from the traditional CV of American ambassadors mandated to the Kingdom. However, his status as a businessman would give an indication of the degree of importance accorded by the Trump administration to Rabat: business as usual.Fischer will serve as the administration’s liaison to the nation following his confirmation by the US Senate. read more
