India-Pakistan game will be toughest moment in MS Dhoni’s career: Steve Waugh

first_imgIndia may have been shocked by New Zealand in their opening match of the ICC World Twenty20 but Australian legend Steve Waugh feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s mere presence in the middle will lift the morale of every Indian for the rest of the tournament.Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2016, Waugh said Dhoni still has the Midas touch.”Dhoni seems to have that Midas touch. He gives all Indians that sense of comfort – when he walks to the wicket, every Indian feels he would do something good,” he said. After losing the tournament opener by 47 runs, India’s next match against Pakistan at the Eden Gardens becomes crucial.  Waugh believes the Saturday game will one of the toughest moments of Dhoni’s 12-year-long international career in front of his home crowd.  “The India-Pakistan game on Saturday will be one of the toughest moments in his career,” Waugh said.Waugh was also optimistic about the team’s chances under Dhoni. He said the wicketkeeper-batsman had the nack of delivering during pressure situations. “He generally delivers when the team needs him to. I still think he’s great player, particularly in limited-overs cricket,” Waugh said.”Losing the first game has put an enormous amount of pressure on India. However, Dhoni is one guy, who doesn’t get affected by pressure,” he added. The former Australia skipper said Dhoni continued to be a tough and resilient cricketer. Waugh was in awe with the amount of T20 cricket the wicketkeeper-batsman has played.”As a keeper he has played 64 T20I games , the second most in international cricket and that shows how resilient and tough he is,” Waugh said.advertisementlast_img read more
